Manual sod removal for tight garden beds

I'm working on redesigning some narrow garden beds, and I've hit a bit of a snag. I need to take out small patches of sod by hand, but using a shovel feels a bit clunky for these tight spots. I'm wondering, what's the best hand tool to make this sod removal clean and easy? Any tips would really help!

Maybe try some of those mini shovels? I've seen some that are no larger than the palm of a person's hand, so I'm guessing they'll do the trick? Also, to make things easier for you water the soil the day before so that it's moist to make things easier for you.

Ditch the fancy tools, just use a sharp steak knife and get low, it is way more precise than half those overpriced garden gadgets. It might not be proper, but it works
