Using wood chips

I'm planning to do some landscaping around my home and wondering about using wood chips right up against the foundation for soil health and all the other benefits. I've read a lot of warnings online about termites, roaches, and other pests. Does anyone in Arizona have experience with this? Do you stick to mulch near the house and chips only for paths, or is it safe to do both?

@wo ai ni In Arizona, I think be careful putting wood chips right against the foundation since pests can be attracted. I usually keep a few inches of gravel or bare soil near the house and use chips a bit farther out for paths and garden beds.
